Diplomacy: striving for peace and cooperation
A constructive and dynamic diplomacy developed under the impulse of President Ben Ali. While serving the interests of the country and well-anchored in its regional environment, the Tunisian diplomacy is founded on the commitment to the principles of international law, peace, friendship and cooperation between peoples.
It militates for a new spirit of international solidarity by taking into consideration the necessity for a global co-development that is at the same time just and lasting. The initiatives of President Ben Ali in favor of a co-development and partnership charter around the Mediterranean and of a peace and progress contract between developed and developing nations, must be read within that framework. The same can be said about the initiative taken in 1998 for a World Summit on information society as well as Ben Ali's call in Septembre 1999 for the creation of a World Solidarity Fund.
